CloseRetaliation and Enemies It is so very human to retaliate when we are wronged. It is also very human to despise those who seem to make it their goal in life to bring us down. Jesus acknowledges this but communicates that His Kingdom and His disciples will practice and then become something very different. He gave us four illustrations from the first century Judaism that could still be applied today: turn the other cheek, giving one’s shirt and coat, going the extra mile, and giving to the one who asks. Pastor Nate also challenges us with how we feel about our enemies, and relates to the story of two wolves. Are we showing the world around us Kingdom characteristics towards our enemies and those who seek to take advantage of us? After pondering these thoughts and Scriptures, we might ask ourselves how we will respond when personally offended or insulted; and how can we intentionally love those who rival us or give us problems?
