The Gospel of David – part 2

David and Goliath: It's a well-known story that even little kids know, but have you ever thought about it from a Gospel perspective? Where do we see Jesus in this story? This isn't just a kiddie story! It's a gospel story! David fought this battle in the Shephelah, or foothills in Judea. Pastor Nate gives a historical explanation of the significance of this geographical region. God raises up heroes, such as Jonathan, Samson, and now David, to establish the dominance of His values and the preservation of His plan for salvation of the world. The Christian community today can learn a valuable lesson from the Philistine-Israelite conflict in the Bible. Our “Shephelah” today is when opposing values clash. Our calling before God is to confront the secular values of the world and win. Pastor Nate describes the huge size of Goliath and the weapons he had, compared to what David used for this battle. God prepared David in a very specific way to defeat Goliath. Some Gospel Truths that were summarized: 1. God will prepare you and give you what you need to fight your giant. Trust the army that the Lord has given you; the biggest weapon He has given you is His presence, so trust Him! 2. God uses the simple, weak and humble things to shame the wise. 3. Humility is letting anyone and everyone know that the reason you won,, or have anything good in your life, is because of Jesus! 4. Our salvation comes fr.om Jesus. Scriptures referenced: 1 Samuel 17, 1 Samuel 14, Judges 13-16, Genesis 6:1-5, Numbers 13:27-28, 32-33, Joshua 11:21-22, Romans 8:37-38, Proverbs 3:5-6, Genesis 3:15.
