CloseHarmony With One Another Living harmoniously with family can be difficult. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to live in harmony with one another. Harmony takes work. The Spirit works but we too must work. The biggest enemy of harmony is me and my pride! Practical ways Christians can live in harmony with one another: Choose humility over pride (am I more concerned with winning an argument or preserving a relationship); Focus on what unites us in Christ (before discussing a disagreement, acknowledge the common faith and commitment you share); Listen before speaking (in a disagreement, summarize the other person’s view fairly before presenting your own); Assume the best about others (ask questions instead of making assumptions); Forgive quickly (is there someone I’m avoiding or holding a grudge against?); Serve rather than compete (volunteer for unnoticed tasks, celebrate others’ successes instead of comparing yourself to them); Speak truth with grace (before speaking, ask yourself if it is true, is it necessary, and is it loving); Pray for one another (regularly pray for people with whom you disagree or find difficult); Pursue peace actively (what step can I take today to restore or strengthen a relationship?). Are we intentionally working with the Holy Spirit to be in harmony with others? Harmony is not the absence of differences; it is the presence of Christlike love that enables believers to walk together despite those differences.
